November Company is simple. It doesn’t have to try to win you over with hyperbolized PR scripts. It doesn’t even want to. It just wants you to enjoy quality and creativity, and it entices you to do so. First, it lures you in with an eclectic store design which embraces romanticism, minimalism, Orientalism and straight-up elegance all at once. Once you’re inside, it welcomes you with a display of baked goods made of the most expensive chocolate available on the global market. It also serves quiches and other savories for the more salty palette. November Company is an event planner, bakery and retailer of silk and other fine products. It pride’s itself on its attention to design detail, which is evident in the intricate packaging of all its goods; yet it also spares no effort on the richness of the substance beneath the icing.
“We enjoy rich chocolate, as opposed to overwhelmingly sweet chocolate. There’s a difference. Our clientele seem to appreciate the fact that we distinguish between the two,” said Bibi Hayat, the store’s young and talented owner. “With us, you basically eat what you see. Unlike the common dessert, which usually looks appetizing but is often doused in sugar, our baked goods look beautiful and taste just as good as they look.” Testimony to the richness of November’s desserts is their top seller, the cake truffles. “Recipe making is a science. It has to be meticulously done over and over again in order to be perfected,” she added.
Judging from the large silk Asian tapestry hanging on her office wall, to the felt lining of embroidered cushions resting on her simple pistachio sofa, Bibi’s taste is worldly and refined all at once. Products showcased at the store include Holistic Silk, an exporter of luxury relaxation, travel and beauty accessories. Coming soon is another luxury brand, Abahna bathing oils and moisturizers.
Bibi and her team are also selective in their use of only the finest products when designing and accessorizing numerous events throughout the year. “We plan weddings, baby showers, outdoor dining events, anti-Valentine’s day parties,” and much more, she explained. “Central to our philosophy is dedication to a good time. What we care the most about is gathering people, good food and quality design together in order to create a vibe that everyone can enjoy,” she said.
November Company is in the process of publishing an event-planning book to recommend ideas and designs for a variety of occasions. The company also plans to open a café with an intimate ambiance and private setting, but only after finding a suitable location. “It has to be just right. I don’t want to open just another café,” said Bibi. “November is about the art of fine product and services, and everything we involve ourselves in must reflect that.”
